Self Appointed
This is another strip with a dead cousin behind it. I’ve been directing a more editorial eye towards not just the grammar of my process, but the story telling as well. The original version was a moment of talky-talk between Heva and Erik, which ended on a dramatic moment, but not a cliffhanger, and not anything that hadn’t already been established at least once before. It looked good in my outline, and I liked it alright in the initial writing. It was a tough rough to breakdown, but I felt more confident as I tightened it up. Doubt crept back in as I finished the pencils, and while I scanned, corrected, lettered, and color-adjusted, I knew it was wrong. But we were headed out of town, I’m losing ground on my buffer as is, so I went ahead and uploaded, it, wrote the blog, and scheduled it.
Getting back from vacation and avoiding my drawing table as best I could, I finally came up with my solution, and spent Monday continuing to avoid my drawing table, but at least going far enough to get three-quarters of this done.
The first draft will of course go into the oft requested ‘Process’ section, whenever that happens, but I’ll still point what was fixed when it comes along.
This version of the strip also sets up Friday much better, which now also needs redrawn, but I’d barely even roughed it out, so I didn’t lose as much ground there.
