A giant man, with a look of stone. He can lift an ox over his head, yet pluck eggs from a nest unbroken. He has been with Merunga for his whole life, obedient to her every command, willing to give up his life for her, or her caravan should she demand it.

I still do wonder what happened to the rest of the villager mob that went to attack the caravan. (The in-universe explanation, not the real explanation, though that was also very much welcomed).
The same thing that happened to the villager mob will also happen, to a similar extent, to a portion of the Hunnish Horde. So you have that to look forward too, as well as the problems that causes further down the road.
