Along with Col, Ermo, and Aloys, Bogdan survived the ruin of his village by Vaagen's mischief. Bogdan blames not the vampire, but the witch. Bogdan has a hate for Merunga, a little thing as yet, but festering all the time.
Near the Stone of the Frank there is a little village, and Thana is a resident there. She has been all her second life, for as long as the village has been, so to has Thana and her neighbors. It is a prison of a kind, but at least she is alive.
come to think of it, perhaps “I was dead” would have been more appropriate. I mean she’s moving, talking, breathing, warm to the touch (hopefully), so she’s not “dead” dead. She was dead, as in “she was born”. No?

I think it’s a question of self-identification. Yes she was dead, and now she’s alive, but she was dead, and she can’t get over that.
